Disease Types and Number of Patients for Clinical Trials Recruitment

Our division had more than 2000 admissions and in-patient consultations every year and had outpatient consultations more than 5000 every year. We had a comprehensive spectrum of disease encounter and welcomed collaboration in different aspects of neurological diseases.

Collaboration, Partners and Multi-centre Trials Capability

  • 2007-2010: Surgical Trial in Lobar Intracerebral Haemorrhage (STICH II): A Study of the Treatment of Brain Haemorrhages.
  • 2006-2007: A Multi-Centre Clinical Study in Spinal Cord Injury Patients in Mainland China and Hong Kong.
  • 2002-2007: IMASH-Intravenous Magnesium Sulfate in Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (Does Intravenous Magnesium Sulfate Improve Clinical Outcome?).
  • 1998-2002: Surgical Trial in Intracerebral Haemorrhage.

Clinical Trials Monitored and/or Audited by Industry, FDA and local RGC etc.

  • 2006-2010: A Registry for Comparing Catheter-Related Infection Rates among Various Shunt Systems in the Treatment of Hydrocephalus.
  • 2006-2009: Establishment of Baseline and Comparative Infection Rates for the Codman BACTISEALTM External Ventricular Drainage (EVD) System.

  • Acute and reconstructive burns surgery.
  • Paediatric burns; epidemiology, prevention and outcomes of burns.
  • Laser therapy, surgery for benign and malignant skin lesions and general plastic surgery.
  • Reconstructive microsurgery particularly for head and neck cancer, breast cancer and soft tissue tumours.

Special Facility and Equipment

  • Burn Centre (comprehensive burn care is currently provided to 400 hospitalised patients per year in the 16-bed Burns Unit). Burns care is provided by a multidisciplinary burns team.
  • Skin and Laser Surgery Centre (cutaneous laser surgery for vascular and pigmented lesions as well as traumatic scars are currently delivered to over 1,000 outpatients per year).

Disease Types and Number of Patients for Clinical Trials Recruitment

  • For Trial (A), 100 Subjects with superficial or deep partial thickness burn, not exceeding 20 % Total Body Surface Area (TBSA), and not clinically infected were recruited over the 2 years period.
  • For Trial (B), patients with a complicated skin and skin structure infection will be enrolled.

Clinical Trials Monitored and/or Audited by Industry, FDA and local RGC etc.

  • Prospective, Randomized, Double Blind Controlled Trials of Hydrogel and Medicated Hydrogel in Acute Burns.
  • A Multicenter, Randomized, Open-Label Comparison of the Safety and Efficacy of Tigecycline with that of Ampicillin-Sulbactam or Amoxicillin-Clavulanate to Treat Complicated Skin and Skin Infections. (Wyeth Research)
