Strength and Expertise
Our team is dedicated to provide state of the art service to our patients with rheumatic diseases. At the same time, we strive for excellence in pursuing clinical research so that patients can benefit in the long run. All our team members are certified by the GCP and we have been participating in clinical research using biologic and other novel therapies for all the rheumatic disease patients during the past few years. We have a database with all the important social, demographic and clinical parameters of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and psoriatic arthritis (PSA), and therefore patients suitable for different research protocols could be retrieved instantly to shorten the period of recruitment. Since this is the only tertiary referral centre serving around one million people, we have enough patients with various rheumatic diseases beside the aforementioned conditions.
Special Facility and Equipment
Our infusion unit is well equipped with facilities for administration of biological agents. The nurses are experienced with administering various biologics, including infusion or injections. Internet access, computer, fax machine, and refrigerators for drug storage are also available in the infusion room. Laboratory equipment including centrifuge and freezer for processing and storage of blood sample are also available on the same floor. Our laboratory technician is familiar with all the standard procedure for blood taking and processing.
Disease Types and Number of Patients for Clinical Trials Recruitment
- SLE: around 500 patients in total. 60% of them had renal disease.
- RA: around 450 patients in total. Around 10% were still having active disease.
- AS: around 150 patients in total. Less than 10% is receiving TNF blockers.
- PSA: around 100 patients in total. Less than 10% is receiving TNF blockers.
Collaboration, Partners and Multi-centre Trials Capability
We have been collaborating with other centers in the New Territories East Cluster including AHNH and NDH. We are in the process of setting up collaboration in other clusters including HK East and Kowloon West, as well as other centers in China, Europe and South Africa.Clinical Trials Monitored and/or Audited by Industry, FDA and local RGC etc.
